What is RAGEFUL LIVE PLAYBACK SYSTEM?

RAGEFUL LIVE PLAYBACK SYSTEM is a live-performance control system built around REAPER. It is designed for musicians who use backing tracks, regions and programmed playback during live shows.

The REAPER extension handles playback and show control, while the Android remote provides a practical wireless interface for controlling the system from the stage.

Compatibility: tested with REAPER 5.x, 6.x and 7.x.

How to Use

1. Install the REAPER plugin

  1. Download the Windows + Android package above.
  2. Run the RAGEFUL LIVE PLAYBACK SYSTEM installer.
  3. Select your REAPER installation if it is not detected automatically.
  4. The extension is installed into the REAPER Plugins folder.
  5. Restart REAPER if it was running during installation.

2. Prepare your REAPER project

  1. Create your backing-track/project structure in REAPER.
  2. Use regions to define the songs or playback areas.
  3. Name the regions with the names you want displayed in the setlist.
  4. Optionally add REAPER markers inside regions to identify sections such as INTRO, VERSE, CHORUS or SOLO.

3. Open the plugin

Open RAGEFUL LIVE PLAYBACK SYSTEM from REAPER's Extensions menu. The plugin follows the currently active REAPER project/tab.

4. LIVE MODE

  1. Create or configure the live setlist.
  2. Check the song order before starting the show.
  3. When LIVE MODE starts, playback rate is forced to normal speed (100%).
  4. Press START SHOW when ready.
  5. Use the Android remote to control the show from the stage.

5. PRACTISE MODE

  1. Select the song/region you want to practise.
  2. Define the desired start and stop points.
  3. Enable looping if required.
  4. Set the playback rate for slower/faster practice.
  5. Use the pre-count before starting playback.

6. SOUND-CHECK MODE

Sound-check mode is intended for testing and controlling the project before or during a show. Playback starts at normal speed (100%). Project track controls can be operated remotely without keeping the plugin interface open.

7. Android Remote

  1. Connect the Android device and the computer running REAPER to the same network.
  2. Open the Android application.
  3. Select the REAPER instance you want to control.
  4. If several REAPER instances are available, each instance is shown separately.
  5. The current project name is kept synchronized with the selected REAPER instance.

8. Do Not Disturb and screen settings

Android OPTIONS provides independent Do Not Disturb settings for Live, Practise and Sound-check modes. The Android section also provides access to the system DND permission and an option to prevent the screen from turning off or locking during operation.

9. Marker names

If marker display is enabled, the status can change dynamically while a song plays. For example:

The displayed marker is the last marker reached within the currently playing region.

INSTALLING THE ANDROID APP

The RAGEFUL LIVE PLAYBACK SYSTEM Android Remote is distributed as an APK and is not installed through the Google Play Store.

1. Download the APK

Download the latest Rageful_Live_Remote.apk from the download section above.

2. Allow APK installation

When Android asks for permission to install apps from this source, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps.

Depending on your Android version, this option can be found under:

Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps

3. Install the APK

Open the downloaded Rageful_Live_Remote.apk file and follow the instructions displayed by Android.

4. Open the app

Once installation is complete, open RAGEFUL LIVE REMOTE.

5. Allow Do Not Disturb access

If the app does not have Do Not Disturb access, it will display a DO NOT DISTURB - CONFIG button. Tap it and allow Notification Policy Access in Android settings.

This permission is required if you want the app to automatically control Do Not Disturb mode during LIVE MODE, PRACTISE MODE or SOUND-CHECK MODE.

6. Connect to REAPER

Make sure your Android device and the computer running REAPER are connected to the same local network. Start RAGEFUL LIVE PLAYBACK SYSTEM in REAPER and open the Android app. Available REAPER instances will appear automatically.
